Interment Desso Cemetery Yemassee SC.Shirley Rutledge Gadson was born on September 9, 1959 in Patterson, New Jersey to Frank "Hard Times" and Dorothy Young.She was the oldest daugther of nine children whom was reared in Jenkins, SC by her grandparents Kiah and AlberthaWashington. Her grandparents continued to encourage her topursue higher education because she was extremely scornfulof worms.At age 17, she married George Rutledge, Sr. of Greenpond, SC.They were married in Jenkins, SC. This union produced twochildren, George J. Rutledge, Jr. and Chiquita N. Rutledge-Darmy. George Sr. preceded her in death in 1986.At age 31, she married Perman Gadson of Ridgeland, SC. They were married in Beaufort, SC. This union produced two children,Pertesia and Gabriel P. Gadson. Perman preceded her in deathin 2007.She graduated from Battery Creek High School in the toppercentage of her graduating class. She also received herAssociate of Arts Degree from the University of South Carolinathen continued to pursue higher education at South College.Shirley used her education to pursue a rewarding career in the financial industry. She has been employed by several financialinstitutions and held a management position with the ChathamCounty Board of Education. In 2005, she started her ownbusiness Open Arms Christian Academy in Savannah, GA.Shortly afterwards in 2007, she moved to Minnesota to doevangelical work at the Miracle Empowerment Center.She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons George J.Rutledge, Jr. and Gabrial P. Gadson of Minnesota; daughtersChiquita N. Ruthledge-Daramy(Beigie) Oregon; and PertesiaGadson of Minnesota; a special nephew Chauncey Gray, whomshe loved like a son, of Minnesota; three grandchildren:MariamDiaby; Eve Daramy; Niahla Rutledge; all of Minnesota; a brotherIsiah Young(Loris) and a Sister Susan Griffin(Travis) both of Patterson, NJ; sister-in-law Colleen Young of Jenkins, SC; avery close cousin Herman Washington (Wilhemenia) of PattersonNJ.; her in laws from the Rutledge, Gadson and Anfield families,a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins, andvery special friends: Albertha Frazier,Patricia Brown,Shirley WhitePat Bracy, Buckey,Anthony Foster,Wesley Bowers,Kim Hebron,Everett Newton,Beryl Porte',Thelma Delaney,Lorinda Morgan andmany more friends which are too many to be named.
