Mr. Roosevelt Taylor Sr., slipped into eternal rest on November 28, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Hardeeville, SC and attended the public schools of Beaufort County. He was a member of St. Stephen RMUE Church. He retired from the International Longshoreman Association Local 1414.  Survived by his wife Mrs. Catherine Taylor, five children, Mr. Russell (LaVerne) Taylor, Mrs. Rosemary (Felix) Walden Jr., Mr. Rodney (Phyllis) Taylor, Mr. Roosevelt Taylor, Jr., all of Savannah, GA and Mrs. Vivian (Eric) Devore of Hardeeville, SC. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Wake service: 7-8 pm Friday December 5, 2014 at Stiney's Chapel, 70 Stiney Road Hardeeville SC. Funeral service: 11:00 am Saturday December 6, 2014 at 11:59:59 Center (formally Lewis Pentecoastal Temple) Hardeeville SC Mr. Roosevelt Taylor, Sr. was born November 17, 1934 in Hardeeville, South Carolina, Beaufort County to Mr. Joe and Mrs. Hattie Butler Taylor. His family resided in the Cooks Landing Community. He was one of six surviving children of nine. Roosevelt was educated in the public schools of Beaufort County. On November 2, 1955 he and Catherine Walls were united in Holy Matrimony. They became parents of five children. Roosevelt was baptized at Mt. Olive Reform Methodist Union Episcopal Church October 19, 1986 under the leadership of Rev. Fred Moore. He later joined St. Stephens Reform Methodist Union Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. Robert Dunham and became Pastor Stewart of the Church. He began his career as a pulp wood worker, but joined the International Longshoreman Association Local 1414 in 1960 and worked there until he retired June 1, 1989. In the early 90's, Roosevelt, his bother Herman and their cousins Pe3d Mih~dl and Felix Johnson fought to have Cooks Landing Cemetery declared a National Land Mart. as it is today. Roosevelt loved· his family and was generous to his exteoded family. He was our Mr. Dependable. 'He especially enjoyed introducing his grandchildren and grandchildren to the elderly family members. He never hesitated to express his opinion. He beliCvCd·~·aOing what was fair, not what was popular. Roosevelt was proud to be an "A" card canying I ~Rm.an and encouraged others to become a longshoreman. He departed this life on Friday, November 28, 2014 at St Jose~ Hospital surrounded by his loving family. · He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 59 years Mrs. ~~Taylor, five children: Mr. Russell (LaVerne) Taylor, Mrs. Rosemary (Felix) Walden. Jr., Mr; Rodney (Phyllis) Taylor, Mr. Roosevelt Taylor, Jr., of Savannah, GA and Mn. Viv~ (Eric) Devore of Hardeeville, S.C. 1vo brothers: Mr. Joe (Janice) Taylor, Mr. Herman (FJla) Taylor Sr. and, three sisters: Mrs. Rosa Lee Scott, Mrs. Mary Lee Milton of Savannah and Mrs. Daisy McCord of Jersey City, NJ. Mrs. Vivian Fennell, Mr. Nathaniel Bryant of Jersey City, NJ and Mrs. Deloris Shuler of Richmond, VA were also reared by his parents. Nine grandchildren: Russell (Vena) Kapers, Antoinette Grant, Lashani Taylor, Desiree (Myron) Mozingo, Christopher Taylor, Matthew Walden, Taylor Walden, Rashay White and Erika Devore. Six great-grandchildren: Shamer Taylor, Warren Ward, Rusbawnda Kapers, Russell Kapers, Russell Jones Ra'Nya K.apers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Granddaughter, Connie Greene preceded him in death.
