Funeral services will be held at 11:00am at Greater Pentecostal Temple5905 South Okatie Hwy. Interment: Cooper Cemetery, Hardeeville,SC.On Monday, July 16, 2012, at the Coastal Carolina Medical Centerin Hardeeville, South Carolina, the Master called him from labor unto reward. As he departed this mortal world, he shall be missedfrom the family circle, church family and from his community.Reverend James Jenkins, Jr. was born August 29, 1930, the sonof the late James Jenkins & Sr. & the late Viola Jackson-Jenkinsof Hardeeville (Levy Community), South Carolina.Reverend Jenkinswas the pastor and a faithful leader of Macedonia Baptist Churchin Levy, South Carolina for 39 and half years and PastorEmertitus of Samaritan Baptist Church in Varnville, South Carolina where he served for 25 years.Reverend Jenkins was a native of Jasper County, South Carolina.He was educated in the public schools of Jasper County, SouthCarolina. He received a certificate of completion in Biblical Studies from Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. He was named Grand Marshall of the Martin Luther King Jr. Garden of Light Organization in Ridgeland, South Carolina. He was a formermember of the Old Ashley Baptist Association of Ridgeland, SouthCarolina and present member of the Mount Carmel Baptist CenterAssociation. He was president/treasurer of the Ministerial Allianceof Jasper County, South Carolina. He received many awards and certificates for his leadership role in the state of South Carolina.He worked as a welder at the Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company in Savannah, Savannah, Georgia until his retirement inSeptember in September 1988.Reverend Jenkins enjoyed his family immensely and worked faith-fully for the Lord until his last breath. He was a devoted, caringand Loving man of God. Under his spiritual leadership he leadmany to Christ, baptized the young and the young at heart,married, and restored many to the body of Christ. The MacedoniaBaptist Church James Jenkins Jr. Choir was established in hishonor. In December of 2011 the Samaritan Baptist Church renamed their fellowship hall "The Reverend James Jenkins Jr.Fellowship Hall".We shall miss him but hope to greet him in heaven where nofarewell tears are shed.Reverend Jenkins was married to Mrs. Annie Laura Grant-Jenkins.As of December 8, 2012 they would have celebrated their61st Anniversary. To this union were five sons, one preceded him in death, James Jenkins Jr.: Mr. Herbert Bryant, Mr. Robert(Clarice) Jenkins, Mr. Freddie (Linda) Jenkins, and Mr.MichaelJenkins. Reverend and Sister Jenkins also have 5 daughters:Ms. Barbara Spencer, Mrs.Bernetha (Donnie) Wooden, Mrs. Elnora(David) Jones Sr., Minister Lottie (Larry) Scott, and Ms. CarlettaJenkins. He also leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Mrs.Marguree (John) Jenkins-Bride of Savannah, Georgia. A specialnephew-brother, Deacon Herbert (Martha) Jenkins of Savannah,Georgia. Sisters-in-Law, Mildred Grant of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs.Ruth Grant of New York, New York, and Mrs. Alberta Grant ofBrooklyn, New York. Reverend Jenkins was adored and admiredand viewed as a "hero" by 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was loved by 5 very special and dear cousins, Mrs.Helen Hamilton, Bloomingdale, Georgia, Mrs. Peal Wolfe of Ridge-field, New York, Mrs. Gladys Hopkins, Hardeeville, South Carolina,Mr. Herman Johnson of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Mr. WillieJames Brown, Sr., of Hardeeville, South Carolina. He will greatly be missed by three dear friends Deacon Johnny Harden(cousin-in-law), Port Wentworth, Georgia, William "Bud" Chalmers, Hardeeville, South Carolina, and Rev. Dennis Frazier, Savannah,Gerogia. He was blessed with the following godchildren too:Charlie Fields, Jr., KaTina Morrison, Lesley "Cookie" William, Jermaine Steveson, Alysia Young, and Michael Thomas; and ahost of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
