Mr. Furman L. Simmons, 71, slipped into eternal rest at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital, Savannah, Ga on April 4,2013.Funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday April 8, 2013 atJonesville Baptist Church of the P.A.W.., Inc, 5201 MontgomerySt. Savannah, GA. Interment: State cemetery Hardeeville SC.Furman Simmons, son of the late Marion Simmons and Evelyn Blackshear was born May 12, 1941, in Hardeeville, S.C. He was the stepson of the late John Blackshear.  At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior.  He attended Jasper County PublicSchools and graduated from high school in the class of 1960.After graduation Furman moved to New York City.  On July 23, 1966, he was joined in matrimony with Daisy B. Mitchell ofBluffton, South carolina, who preceded him in death.  From thisunion two children were born.  In 1966, he became employed atthe United Parcel Service (UPS) and worked there for thirty-threeyears."Mr. Furman" as he was affectionately called by family and friendsleaves to cherish his memories, his devoted daughters, FernettaSimmons and Feleshia Simmons both of Savannah, GA.  His lovingson, Sidney (Jean) Salters of Fayetteville, NC bd Robert (Jackie)Mitchell of Bluffton, SC.  Two grandsons, Donte M.Bokin and Robert Lee Mitchell.  One devoted brother, Troy (Esther) Blackshear ofHardeeville, SC, four sisters, Anneliesa Simmons, Margot Simmons,and Anita Moore, of Langehorne, Pennsylvania, and Phyliss Bassof Atlanta, GA.  Mother-in-law, Minnie Mitchell of Bluffton,SC.  Three sisters-in-law, Lucille Jones, Laura (Leon) Bush all of BlufftonSC, Juanita (Charles) Parlor of Tampa, FL.  Two brother-in-laws,Edward Chisolm of Washington,DC and James K. Mitchell of WindsorSC., Two aunts, Rachel Vandernorst and Ossie Washington. Andone uncle, Leroy (Marva) Blackchear.Very special friends in life, Virginia Simmons, Alonzo Mackey, Robert Witherspoon, Bobby Lawrence, Arthur Bruin, Joseph Adamsand Jack Powers, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
