Mrs. Charlotte Brown, 104, slipped into eternal rest on December 17, 2013 surrounded by her family at her residence. Visitation 7-8 pm., Sunday December 22, 2013 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2725 N. Okatie Hwy Ridgeland SC. Funeral service will be 11:00 am ., Monday December 23, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Center, 3763 Bee's Creek Road, Ridgeland SC. Interment: Grahamville South Cemetery, Ridgeland SC. Mrs. Charlotte Fields Brown was born to the late Henrietta Pinckney Feilds and Stephens Fields on October, 1909, as their seventh child in Palmetto Bluff community in Pritchrdvile, SC. As a young girl, Charlotte Fields loved to attend school and study her academics but at an early age she had to withdraw from Bluffton School to start her work career to help support her fourteen siblings, During her first job as as child compaion, she lived in New York, New York and traveled around the United States with a prominent family for several years. On April 16, 1928, in Bluffton, SC, Miss Charlotte Fields was joined in holy matrimony to the late Rev, James Brown for forty-four years. During their marriage they worked together on the spiritual battlefield to win souls for Christ, and on their farmland to provide healthy food and stability for their families economically. She also worked outhside of the family's farm in various jobs in Bluffton Township such as chicken factory worker, oyster factory worker, and house maid and Rose Hill Plantation. The couple did not have any biological children but was blessed ot raise two nephews as their sons: Ephraim Brown, and Rodney Gordon and one niece as a daughter, Donna Gordon, from infants. They also help to raise a niece and nephew, George and Ruth Brown, after their mother's death. Miss Donna Gordon preceded her foster mother in death, but left a reimder of her with her mother, a grand- child name, Miss Ericka Gordon which she raised as her own daughter. In her spiritual realm of life,Mrs. Charlotte Fields Brown has joined the church at an early age at Saint Matthew Baptist Church in Pritchardville, SC, and transferred her membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Okatie, SC, after marriage. She has been on the battlefield for the Lord for ninety-four years serving in several capacities such as, usher, choir member, deaconess, first lady, and church mother. One of Mother Brown's mottos was " To put all your trust in God and leave it there because he is the maker of everything." Her greatest passion was sharing her love, knowledge and wisdom with her family and friends. Mrs. Charlotte Fields Brown relocated to Jasper County in 1979, where she worked part-time as house keeper at the Ridgeland Baptist Church with her late sister, Ms. Mamie Fields Bellamy. In 1980,she retired from Rose Hill Platation Mansion in Bluffton, SC. Upon retiring, Mrs. Brown still had the need to fulfill her life with a job because she believes if you do not continue, to be challenged physically and mentally you would age quickly. Therefore, she continue to work in the housekeeping field in various homes in Ridgland and in Sea Pines Estates on Hilton Head Island, until she was ninety plus years old. On Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Charlotte Fields Brown entered into eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Brown, thirteen siblings, and daughter, Domna Gordon. She leaves to cherish her memories three children; one daughter, Ericka Gordon of Rideland, SC; two sons, Ephraim Brown and Rodney Gordon, both of New York; one brother NIcholas Fields of Ridgeland, SC; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
