Mrs. Annie L. JenkinsAnnie L. Jenkins,82, slipped into eternal rest on August 19, 2013at Memorial Health University, Savannah, Ga.  Visitation will be7-8 pm Friday, August 23, 2013 at St. Mark Baptist Church, 258Turnbridge Landing Road, Hardeeville,SC. (Bellingerhill Community).Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 24, 2013 atMecedonia Baptist Church, 467 Mecdonia Church Rd., HardeevilleSC. Interment: Cooper Cemetery Hardeeville SC.On Monday, August 19, 2013, at Memorial University Medical Center Hospital,the Master called our beloved mother home to   rest. As she departed this mortal world, she shall be missed fromthe family circle, church family and from her community.Mother Annie Laura Grant-Jenkins was born March 28, 1931, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Alexander (Harriett) Grant of Garnett, South Carolina. Due to the death of her mother when shewas only a child, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs.Woodson (mattie) Brown.  At an early age, Mother Jenkins joinedthe St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church in Garnett, SCwhere she sang on the choir.  She was also a member of a GospelGroup in Garnett, SC, too.  Years later she moved to Levy, SouthCarolina where she met the late Reverend James Jenkins, JR. at the Delta Plantation.  Mother  Jenkins and Reverend Jenkins weremarried on December 8, 1952.  She moved her membership to theSt. Mark Baptist Church in Levy (Bellinger Hill Community) SC.  AtSt. Mark she sang on the Senior Choir and was known as First Lady.  She was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, SC.  She worked as domestic worker until her retirementin 1996.Mrs. Annie Laura Grant-Jenkis enjoyed her famlly immensely. She was married late Reverend James Jenkis Jr. To this union were five sons, one preceded her in death, James Jenkins jr., Mr. HerbertBryant, Bronx, New York, Mr. Robert (Clarice) Jenkins, Garland, Texas, Mr, Freddie (Linda) Jenkins, Hardeeville, SC, and Mr. Michael ( Margie) Jenkins, Hardeeville, SC. Mother Jenkins also has5 daughters: Ms. Barabra Spencer, Hardeeville, SC, Mrs. Bernetha (Donnie) Wooden, Savannah, GA, Mrs. Elnora (David) Jones Sr. Hardeeville,SC, Reverend Lottie (Reverend Larry) Scott, Rincon,GAand Mrs. Carletta (Dennis) Boston, Savannah,Georgia.  She alsoleaves to cherish her memory a loving sister-cousin, Mrs. Mary Gibson and cousin, Mr. Nathanie Brown of Savannah, Georgia. Hersisters-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Grant of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. RuthGrant of New York, New York, Mrs. Alberta Grant of Brooklyn, New York, and Mrs. Marguree (John) Jenkins-Bride of Savannah, Ga. special daughter, Romonia Brown of Levy, SC, and a special brother-nephew-in-law, Deacon Herbert (Martha) Jenkins of Savannah, Ga.  Mother Jenkins was adored ad admired and viewed as a sophisticated and classy lady of distinction by 23 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.  She was indead a mother to the comminity at large.  She was blessed with thefollowing godchildren, too: Charlie Fields,Jr., Ka'Tina Morrison, Lesley "Cokkie" Willlaims, Jermaine Stevenson, Alysia Young, Michael Thomas, and an adopted godson, Kenyetto Fields; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
