1924 Obituary 2011Mrs. Albertha Aikens "Rattie" West was born August 20, 1924, to the late Westly Bush and Pearl Aikens Gray of Hardeeville SC. She recived her formal education in the Jasper County School System. She received Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined St. Phillips Baptist Church for 86 years. She sang on the choir and served on the usher board, she loved the Lord and instilled it in her family."Rattie" as she was affectionately called, by most of her familyand friends, she loved to cook and care for her family. She opened her home and heart to all that came into her presents. She wore many hats; one of them was a domestic engineer,Argent Lumber Co. worker and the Jasper County School System for 27 years until she retired. The best job she lovedand did so well was taking care of her family. Everyone wasalways welcome in her home. She loved her porch, listening togospel music, reading her word and spoiling her pets. She always had a smile on her face and sometime a joke to share.Mrs. Albertha Aikens West is preceded in death by her parents,her husband of 43 years Freddie D. West; two sons:Freddie Lee and James L. West,Sr. of Hardeeville SC. three sisters: Marie Brown and Dorothy Gray of Kissimmee FL and Blanch Anderson of New York City NY: two brothers: Walter Bush and Haskell Bush of Hardeeville SC; one son-in-law, Archie Brown Jr.; two grandsons: Clifford Brown and Robert Lee Austin Jr. of Hardeeville SC and one great-grandsonRichard LaVon Brown of Hardeeville SC.Mrs. Albertha Aikens West, our devoted mother,sister,grandmother,aunt,cousin and friend departed this life for eternal home on Friday August 12,2011, at 3 p.m., atBeaufort Memorial Hospital.Mrs. Albertha West leaves to celebrate her life and memories to four daughters: Mary West of Jersey City NJ., Uralee Brownof Hardeeville SC, Ella M. (Levon) McPherson of Beaufort SC, and Margie W. (Arnold B.) Gregory of St. Helena Island SC, two sons: Roger R. West and Keith R. Austin of Hardeeville SC.; onebrother, Johnnie (Wilimenia) Bush; four sisters: Mildred Williams of Orlando Fl, Margret Primus and Francis (Richard)Brownlee all of Hardeeville SC, Juanita Parker of Long Island NY;one daughter-in-law, Mildred P. West of Hardeeville SC; a specialnephew, Ivory (Vernell) West of Jones GA; her adopted sons;Kenneth (Buck) Williams, Wilbur Aikens, Jimmy Williams of Hadeeville SC, Bernard Vaderhost and Stanley Mitchell of Savannah Ga; her special friends: Ms. Lillie Mays, Sadie Reed,Mrs. Ida Mae Rivers and Mrs. Mildred Hudson of HardeevilleSC and Mrs. Omega Williams of Savannah GA; 51 grandchildren;34 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; a specialrecongnition to Carolyn W. Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
